Early detection of kidney disease is very important

About 500 million people worldwide, one in ten adults have some form of kidney damage and growing, said on Thursday at a press conference on the occasion of World Kidney Day.

Dr. Steve Plješa said that in Serbia there are about 4,000 patients on dialysis and waiting for the 1500 trnsplantaciju kidney, stressing that those who suffer from kidney disease receive the latest therapy.

According Plješinim words, nephrologists struggling prevention, because the population does not understand that must be examined at least once a year, especially diabetics, people with hypertension, men with prostate problems and all the families who have kidney patients.

"Elevated blood glucose levels over time damages the small and large blood vessels in the body due to which damages the heart, kidneys, eyes, nerves, feet," he pointed out Plješa.

He added that kidney damage is 30 to 50 percent of patients with type 1 diabetes, and 20 to 30 percent of patients with type 2 diabetes

Plješa pointed out that the first sign of chronic kidney disease in patients with diabetes is the increased amount of albumin in the urine (microalbuminuria), where it is necessary that the patient told the doctor.

Dr. Zoran Kovačević said that the life of kidney transplant patients may be extended for a legacy that needs body.

He said that Serbia has the quality personnel who perform a kidney transplant, has a space and medicine, but a lack of organization of professionals and citizens, because the Serbian authorities on the legacy of last place in Europe.

On the occasion of World Kidney Day, the Russian Tsar in Knez Mihailova street stands were set up in which all interested parties up to 14 hours can obtain the necessary information and printed material with the message that early detection of kidney disease condition for successful treatment.

World Kidney Day is celebrated every year the second Thursday in March, when the association brings together health professionals and patients in over 60 countries.
